The Warshaw/Kast Branch of the Family Tree

Ida Ostrovsky Warshaw, Bernhardt Warshaw, and their children Fred & ElanoraIda Ostrovsky, Nora Deuber's mother: birth date, place of birth unknown. Died June 22, 1945, Fresno, California.

Ida married (probably 1899 or 1900):

Bernhardt Warshaw, birth, marriage, and death dates unknown.

At right, the Warshaw family: Ida Ostrovsky Warshaw, Bernhardt Warshaw, and their children Fred and Elanora. The photo was probably taken in 1904 or 1905. It is unique (at least in my collection) in that it is enameled on a round metal disk. It certainly hasn't torn or been scratched, but scanning it was a bit of a challenge! The light from the scanner made a rather bright reflection toward the bottom, which was removed for esthetic considerations.

I love the picture below, which shows Bernhardt's mother and father S'hana and Chaneh Resel Center, my mother's paternal grandparents. I don't know when the photo was taken, but I do know that it was taken either in Moscow or by a Muscovite photographer. And the back is a work of art in itself. (Part of me wanted to remove my mother's notes, but I was afraid it would be too obvious. And I suppose her notes are part of the history too.)

S'hama & Chaneh Resel Center, Bernhardt Washaw's parents

Ida and Bernhardt's children:

Fred & Nora Warshaw, Dayton, Ohio 1910Fred Warshaw, birth date unknown, but probably c. 1899; date of death unknown. My Uncle Fred died in Los Angeles, California, probably in the late 1960s-early 1970s. Never married.

Elanora Warshaw (my mother), born August 31, 1903 in Superior, Wisconsin; died 1986 in Columbus, Ohio. Married Francis (Frank) William Deuber, 1923.

The inscription on the back of the snapshot of Elanora and Fred Warshaw (left) reads:"Nora and myself. Taken at Green St. Dayton Ohio about 1910."

The Warshaw family lived for a time in New York and in San Antonio, Texas. Ida and Bernard were divorced (date unknown).

Ida married Hyman Kast and they had one son, Robert Kast in 1917. From a photo postcard, which you can see in the Warshaw photo album, I know that the Kasts were living in the Bronx, New York in 1910. They may have lived in Los Angeles before settling in Fresno, California.
